March 04, 2018 - Update to v4.0.983
With 7 new maps, controller support, noticeable improvements of the bots and much more,
the new version is a huge update.
The bots were
mostly expelled, that they repeatedly shoot through walls. But also the selection of the
opponent has been improved - so infantry will no more shoot at tanks with AK-47 or M-16 ;)
All maps were performance-checked and the result is a
significant increase in FPS.
The maps are remakes of many well-known maps.
Checkout the new demo
or buy the game in our shop.
If you already purchased the game you can download the new full version in our shop / MY DOWNLOADS.
(Note: The download in the shop shows the link to the purchased game. This link always
loads the currently available version!)

Bad Moon Rising
Is one of three well known old maps from the early days of EoD. It is a night-map with a
densely covered swamp and is really exciting, because you often see the opponents very
late!
Hill 937
Also a well known old map about the famous hard-fought Hamburger Hill.
Like many others it has a day- and night mode and offers plenty of variety.
Lam Son
Lam Son was a very popular map in the old BF42 modification, because the relatively small
map offers very quick fights and race for the flags.
This also happens in the re-make, at least the feeling against bots is almost the same as
with the old EoD!
Surrounded
You have to defend an US-Camp while Charlie is attacking from all sides!
Sa Pa
Is like Lam Son a very small map with fast fights. It also was very popular in the old
game.
Vinh Loc
The third ancient map from EoD. Capture an island that is hold by Vietcong.
But please use one of the boats, helicopters or aircrafts and don't swim ;)
Pleiku Mansion
Is a brandnew map. NVA tries to hold a nobel quarter of Pleiku and gets attacked by a lot
of US infantry and tanks. This is harder than expected, because the tanks can logically
only be attacked with bazookas, but there are enough of them lying around the hot spots.

A new map, a new soldier team, improvements on the AI and
some more realistic sound enviroment are the main things coming with the new update. And
finally! The new version will stop tanks from bouncing like balls if they collide with
other things and won't fly around like a balloon anymore.
A script bug fought against the physics wich caused this damn bug that made me go grey :)

Checkout the new demo
or buy the game in our shop.
If you already purchased the game you can download the new full version in our shop / MY DOWNLOADS.
Steam users automatically get the update via Steam.
Here are the most important changes. To see more detailed
information read the changelog below.
By the way: a lot of these changes were suggestions by the
community! Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any ideas for improvements or new
things to add.
Unfortunately not everything can be added right away.
There are still plans to add a korean soldiers team and another map (see news below).
Leaderboard for singleplayer
A leaderboard for singleplayer highscores was implemented so you can compare your scores
with others.
I.e. what is the best lap of your friend in Jocoseness racing map?
Weapon sway and weapon accuracy, Stamina
A lot of improvements have been done on all the weapons. Soldiers will sway the weapons
more realistic while running and also you can't shoot or reload anymore while running.
Also the walk/run/ladder climb/swim speeds have been changed to more realistic values. In
multiplayer the stamina was reduced so players can't run around all the time and must be
thrifty with their breath.
Finally! Multiplayer bots!
Creating a room and wait for other players can be very very boring and this was the reason
why no rooms/players are online most of the time.
The reason was in the code of the AI: no network sync wich can cause a lot of trouble in
online games.
Now the bots are synced and you can play with bots and your friends online!
Of course the admin can decide to kick the bots whenever he wants.
The new bots are just available in 'Conquest' mode and maybe will be added to other game
modes in a later update.
Of course the bots have been generally improved, so you will notice a difference to the
bots in earlier versions of EoD - also in singleplayer!
New maps Da Nang, Face to face and NVA Junglebase
In the last news post Da Nang and Face to face have been introduced.
A third new map is NVA junglebase, wich was inspired by the game 'Vietcong 2'.
Of course it's completely different and not just a clone. The map is very exciting cause
it has a lot of corners to hide and 2 tunnels to get to the controlpoints on a differnt
way.
NVA Junglebase

May 29, 2017 - Big update almost ready
A huge update for EoD is pending and almost finished.
The most important changes go to the weapon handling and aiming.
Soldiers will sway the weapon more realistic while running. Also it will be impossible to
aim, shoot or reload while running.
There are more important changes and bugfixes. To learn more take a look at the
provisional changelog below.
Of course the new update will have new maps as well.
Face to face
is a huge area of rice fields wich is ideal for tank battles.
But the map can be played in infantry mode as well.
The video is some weeks old and was made with the old version so you won't see the changes
from this update but the map!
DaNang
is a remake of an old EoD custom map with heavy infantry battles.
It was completely rebuild with some new aspects.
US troops will have to storm the beach before they can capture flags.
It's a little bit like Omaha Beach in Vietnam.
Kill Major Shorty
Someone wrote about the -for 15 years- missing EoD mission 'Kill Colonel Kurtz' wich is of
course an allusion to the film 'Apocalypse Now'.
Well I'm working on this map but Kurtz is now Shorty and he was degraded to Major and of
course it will not be a copy of the film.
But it will have a large river with lots of enemies and a boss-monster at the end of the
river :)
Credits
A big thanks to the players who contribute with constructive criticism and motivation to
improve EOD. In particular a thanks to Luckensscott and FMhades!

Old vs new
Here's a comparsion between old EoD (released 2002) and EoD-Redux (released 2016).
March 1, 2017 - 15 years EoD, price reduction and update release!
15 years EoD
15 years ago the mod-team and the modification for Battlefield were founded.
After EoD for Battlefield 1942 in 2003 the
game/modification was released for Battlefield:Vietnam in 2005 and for Battlefield 2 in
2007 before it got a standalone game with EoD-Redux in 2016.
Discount on the anniversary
We take this anniversary as an opportunity to reduce the price for EoD to around 50%.
The full version is available now for 9,90 EUR instead of 19,90 EUR in
our shop!
(Punji Edition 19,90 EUR instead of 32,90 EUR)
Update Release - EoD v4.0.917 available
As announced an updated version is available now, which is really extensive.
In addition to significantly better AI, there is now also a campaign-mode, artillery
support and many other improvements. 5 new maps increase the mappool to 45 maps!

or if you already purchased the game go to the shop and download the new full version.
February 21, 2017 - Run through the jungle Update March
2017
A month after the last update the next is already in the starting blocks. In addition to 5
new maps from the early EoD times, the attention was given to improve the AI. But other
things have been improved as well and many useful suggestions of players could be
implemented.
The release is planned for March, but first things
first...
TT-33
The completely wrong Nambu could at last be replaced by a TT-33 model!
Binoculars for request of artillery support
The binoculars can now requesting artillery support. This feature should be used only on
large distances ;)
Spectator mode improved
The spec-camera is now freely rotatable and can be switched to the next BOT by pressing
'K'.
AI enhancements
Bots can be sometimes very difficult.
Everyone does what he wants, nobody does what he should, but everyone joins!
To improve this the AI code has been completely revised.
The result is much more action in game.
Of course it still can happen that a bot still doesn't know where to go first, but this
should be reduced to some seconds now.
5 new maps
4 old maps from the early times of EoD and 1 brandnew map were implemented:
Run through the jungle
Two action-packed infantry modes are available and bring a different feel of the game in
each mode.
Closefire
A deep gorge, a temple in the forest and huts on an indomitable mountain were the
trademark of Closefire. All of this was retained in the new edition and the flair of the
map is breathtaking.
As a bonus, this map is also available in zombie mode (night-time)!
Battle of Long Tan
A brandnew map is Battle of Long Tan (1966) where 108 inexperienced Australian soldiers
had to defend their base against 2500 Vietcong.
In addition, you can play this map as 'Doorgunner'.
Marble Mountain
If the weather outside is pressing on your mind you should consider playing this
beautifulweathermap! The NVA has to take this hill by walking or with the tank...
A Shau Valley
Oldies but goldies. Another conversion of an old EoD map.
Planned Release-Date: March 2017
January 20, 2017 - Update Release!
As promised, a first major update comes right at the beginning of the year.
In addition to other improvements to the AI, the accuracy and much more, there is some new
content.
Checkout the new demo
or if you already purchased the game go to the shop and download the new full version.
Operation Arc Light
The map Operation Arc Light is a pure dogfight map. Beginners is recommended to
display the player's name, to distinguish friend from enemy :)
Dien Bien Phu
In the "first part of the Viet Nam war' the French fought against the Viet Minh. The
Viet Minh team was newly included in the game and is nothing more than the Vietcong just
with other hats.
These hats look a little bit ugly, but they shouldn't be more pretty than in real life ;)
Checkout the new demo
or if you already purchased the game go to the shop and download the new full version.
December 05, 2016 - Plans for 2017
There are plans to add more EoD-typical music to the game coming with the next patch in
2017!
Just the main music title 'Alone in my prison' will not be part cause there's no way to
contact it's producer. Cause of copyrights I can't use this song without an agreement with
the musician.
Apart from other things I'm working on a new project for EoD, a scene called 'Operation
Arc Light'.
This scene is a real huge map just for dogfights and the size is not comparable with all
ever existing maps in EoD!
Large maps can make a lot of trouble cause it's no fun to fly around and don't see any
enemies in the sky. So I'll have to find a way to fill this scene with action.
With a little luck the patch will be released in early 2017!
October 23, 2016 - EoD v4.0.886 release
As promised - however faster as expected - the update to v4.0.886 was finished today and
is now available!
Checkout the new demo or if you already purchased the
game go to the shop and download the new full version.
The changes are extensive and especially the AI was improved.
Also there's another scene called All Along The Watchtower that should remind of
Hamburger Hill and of course Jimmy Hendrix.
The most important change is the factor for bots in
singleplayer. You may select a multiplier from 2x to 10x depending on your machine. So
instead of 30 bots you'll have 300 of these guys if you select 10x!
But of course this has influence on the performance so it's recommended to start with a
lower factor first!
Enjoy the new version it has a really nice action now!
Here's the official Changelog:
GAME
- fixed the french flag
- fixed audio bug playing hymns at flag for several times in
multiplayer
HUD
- colored health display
AI
- improved AI code
- added a multiplier for number of bots in Combat mode
(2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10x)
(This affects the performance! Try a lower value first!)
- improved weapon alignment
- removed die animations with physic ragdolls
HANDWEAPONS
- fixed a bug with the camera position while going downhills
- fixed weapon pickup for AK-47, M-60, PPSH-41 and RPK
MAPS
- new map: All Along The Watchtower
- performance improvements
- Brige Ruin: fixed tank AI navigation
- Que Son Valley: fixed tank AI navigation
- Radiotower: fixed tank AI navigation
- Brown Water Navy: fixed a wrong spawnpoint in multiplayer
- Haiphong Harbor: fixed object culling
October 3, 2016 - Upcoming Patch
An upcoming patch is planned for release before christmas.
Here's a list of what already is fixed and will be released with the next update:
- number of bots can be multiplied now from x2 to x10
- french flag is now the 'Tricolore'
- M-16 A1 instead of an A4 now
- fixed a bug with the camera position while going downhills
- fixed a bug with the vehicle wrecks
- improved AI vehicle navigation in Bridge Ruin
- performance improvements
- misc other bugfixes and improvements
The next step will be to get the AI out of the 'basic-status'.
ie. taking cover or staying together is a thing that should be implemented.
September 30, 2016 - EoD available on Steam now
Today the game was released on Steam.
Players who already have purchased the game will be able to play with Steam users as well
so there's no need to purchase and download once more!
September 28, 2016 - New version available -
EoD on Steam
A new version (full & demo) is available for download.
It comes with co-op mode and a much better AI and some other improvements.
In co-op you can fight against bots as long as no other
players have joined your multiplayer room.
In addition there's a helicopter training map in the full
version and you can learn how to fly the choppers without crashing like a rookie :)
Checkout the new demo
or if you already purchased the game go to the shop and download the new full version.
EoD on Steam
The work on a Steam release is 90% finished and there are just some tests left to do. It
was a lot of work and not that easy to finish the huge checklist for release.
Unfortunately Steam doesn't support the '4 packs' for new
products anymore so we can't offer any sales discounts at the moment.
If you want to make an order for a package for you and your friends please contact me via
eMail, I'm sure there will be a solution.
Of course all the customers who have purchased the game
should be able to use it on Steam without buying the game a second time.
Right now I don't know how this could be realised and will talk to Valve about that.
But of course you can play the game (off Steam) with Steam useres in multiplayer!
September 7, 2016 - EoD is Greenlit !
Just 10 days after releasing EoD on Steam it has got Greenlit!
This is a really surprising news and I can't express how happy I am.
So many 'YES' votes and Followers and all that without buying votes!
Thank you all for the awesome support!
If you can't believe it go here
Now still a lot of work has to be done:
- creating a Steam Website with new content
- preparing the game for Steam compatibility
and last but not least
- the announced AI improvements and Co-op mode have to be
released
Everyone who knows the old Battlefield modification and
who knows me will understand, that I did something else in the meantime:
- finished a training mode for chopper flights (atm. just
keyboard & mouse)
Now it's time to open a bottle of champagne.
Ok, a coffee will also be sufficient :)
Mr. Mai Viet, Mr. Ong Dat and Mr. Luke Buselatto after the war (from left to right)
September 1, 2016 - Coming soon...co-op, better AI
Right now I'm working on one of the missing parts: the coop mode.
Cause it's hard to find some players for a multiplayer match it will be possible to add
bots in the next version.
So you can play against these guys and it makes waiting for other players much easier.
Also the -still very basic- AI will get a lot of
improvements.
August 27, 2016 - Steam Greenlight
EoD was switched from the 'Concepts' to the 'Games' section at Steam Greenlight.
Unfortunatelly you still can't buy the game at Steam cause it needs some YES-votes before
it can get into the shop.
Please visit the website and vote YES so the game will be
available at Steam.
August 18, 2016 - Interview on Games4Linux.de
Games4Linux.de has published an interview about Eve of Destruction - Redux.
The interview is available in german language only, but viva la translators :)
August 07, 2016 - Patchday!
The first big update and a brandnew demo is available now!
Almost all suggestions from the community could be
implemented and the changes are really extensive.
A significantly improved accuracy, a simpler weapon selection and display of
ammunition/medicine boxes and repair possibilities for vehicles facilitate the operation.
Other changes are listed in the changelog below.
2 new Maps were added: Cot Moc and Brown Water Navy.
Scene from Cot Moc
The new demo (v4. 0.866-D) includes the new map Cot Moc
with much more vehicles than the old demo. Game modes are 'Tankbattle' and 'Combat' for
varied virtual battles.
Who has already bought the game can download the new
version 4.0.866 in the shop under 'My downloads'.

June 16, 2016 - Steam
Eve of Destruction - Redux is on Steam now!
June 11, 2016 - Step by step!
Advertising a new game for PC seems to be a Herculean task. While EoD was already
presented at several online platforms (see here)
the resonance really poor.
But nobody said that a beginning is easy.
More pleasing, that a first video in ' Let's play-style' is released on YouTube!
Video (german) by TacticalViper
More multiplayer rooms...
So far, it is almost impossible to find suitable multiplayer rooms, cause the game is
still to unknown.
To find someone who plays online is rather a coincidence.
Further measures are planned to change this, which, however, will take some time:
Organization of a regular monthly events
Problem: global implementation (time zones), so that all players will find the opportunity
to participate
Publication in one or more of the 3 major game platforms
further advertising measures
Bugfixing
The demo has shown that there are some minor bugs and that the AI needs improvement.
Of course these suggestions will be fixed but first let's play it a while!
You may send your suggestions to Lotte@eod-game.de
at any time.
Modifications
I've tried the mod-ability of EoD and I must say: it goes really fast!
In just 4 days EoD was converted so that it can be also a paintball game.
This looks very different, plays out differently, and may as well be a separate game!
Maybe there's a 'free extensions' menu point soon here on
this page? ;)
Jocoseness

Zombie
and in Multiplayer (2 - 128 players)

If you don't like it tell us.
As mentioned before: EoD is a One-Man-Project and made
with a real love of detail.
Really everything, programming, logistics, Web site, online store and much more is
operated on our own.
Of course, support is provided if it is necessary.
Please contact us by eMail or via the contact form in the shop.
Not every eMail can be answered immediately. Please be patient if it takes even longer.
As currently no large-scale multi-million dollar advertising campaigns can be used, we
look forward particularly on 'Word of mouth'. Tell friends and acquaintances about the
game!
Que Son Valley
You don't need any server to play EoD but just an internet
connection.
EoD is based on code from Photon Engine and handled via Photon Cloud.
Because there is no transfer of personal data in game, this is absolutely harmless.
Just create a room and invite friends to play with you.
You may create a private password-protected room for a 'one-vs-one' to be sure no
unintantionally players can join the room.
Smaller 'LAN parties' can easily run over just one
Internet connection. This was tested with a 16 Mbit/s line and 6 participants and no
restrictions were noted.
We were soldiers (@ night)
Please note the system
requirements and the notes on 32-bit operating systems.
Like each 3D game EoD is also assigned on appropriate hardware.
Performance consuming background programs can affect the flow of the game significantly,
just like in any 3D game.

Have a lot of fun with the game!
See you in the jungle!
May 12, 2016 - Preparing for release
The game is sent for agerating to USK since early May.
After that nothing will stop the release anymore.
Meanwhile, the website gets updated.
There is much to discover, have fun browsing the new stuff.
The online-shop is ready, but not yet online.
In addition to downloading you can purchase the game on an USB-stick in a Punji shell :)
Eve of Destruction - Redux - Punji Edition
Virtual demo.
The final product may differ cause of wood finish and engraving.
April 22, 2016 - Finally finished
Finally the coding is finished and the last hurdles for release have been eliminated. Last
weekend we had the final multiplayer tests without significant errors.
The game will now be age rated by USK and is expected for release in 2-3 weeks!
We had a lot of fun testing the game and noticed that it
gets better and better each time of play and collecting knowledge about the special
features.
The memory problem on 32 bit systems with only 3 Gigabyte
of RAM could be eliminated to 99%. Just if you play very long and load a lot of maps it
may get out of memory. So the system-requirements
had to be adjusted one more time.
March 16, 2016 - Release Trouble
The game is finished for 2 weeks now, but unfortunately there can't be made a working
build for 32bit operating systems.
32bit computers can adress a maximum of 3.25GB RAM and that is the limit wich is reached
by the large levels. So the game crashes with an 'out of memory' error.
Why such huge maps at all?
Well it's explained in the news on Feb. 12: aircrafts like the F-104, B-52 or SR-71 need
some more place to get into gear!
And it should make fun to fly around and not just turn around after 5 seconds.
So the release must be stopped until we've found a
solution for this RAM problem cause we think it makes no sense to release just a 64bit
version.
But a gleam of hope on the horizon - the 64 Bit version is
working perfectly fine!
February 12, 2016 - The final countdown
Since some months a little bug made me crazy.
It was like if there's a gremlin in there. Once a thing was repaired another thing didn't
work anymore.
But now the bug is eleiminated and everything is working fine.
A multiplayer test did everything what it was supposed to.
'SR-71 Blackbird' on Mach 2 in the huge level 'Aces over Vietnam'
Mach 3 is definitively unuseable. Perhaps for a space-shooter :-)
Meanwhile the last announced vehicles are placed in game.
These are fun-vehicles and they will be in level 'Jocoseness'.
Anybody who knows the old EoD will agree that Jocoseness
must be in game but it's available -on purpose- in singleplayer mode only. But this time
with really good AI racing-enemíes :-)
Soon there will be a final test cause it's not intended to
make a patch on release day.
Finally the age rating and the show can go on :-)
January 17, 2016, The Eve of Construction - Bloopers
Some funny things that happened while construction the game are shown in this video. Have
fun!
Meanwhile I'm stumbling over some more bugs and realised
that it's much more difficult to build a new engine than modding an existing game :D
So the second release date can't be held though the game
is running fine.
But you should know I want to have it perfect for the first release.
Eve of Construction - Bloopers
January 01, 2016, First release date missed
Happy new year everyone!
As you can see the first release date (1.1.2016) was
missed.
It's because I've found another bug in just 2 of 22 different helicopters.
If the player hits an enemy and the enemy respawns after some seconds, the pilot in the
helicopter dies!?!?
Damn I can't imagine what causes this problem especially
because this happens in just 2 helicopters and the other vehicles work fine.
But no release with such an fatal error, sorry!
Please be patient, it's coming soon :-)
December 04, 2015 - Release in sight!
It's coming soon!
Currently I'm fighting with a small but persistent network-bug (the statistics counts the
frags from vehicles incorrectly). But I'm optimistic that EoD Redux will be finished
before Christmas!
With a one man Game Studio it unfortunately takes some
more time to finish things and I don't want to stress my family with a release before
Christmas, cause they supported me with motivation in the past 3 years.
Also the official age ratings have to be done, which will
take about 2-3 weeks.
And we have to find a solution to sell the game online.
A good online WebShop is found and it also works, but there is are some adjustments to be
done.
Scene from Tonkin Raid
Of course the famous phrase 'when it's done' is still
effective, but the beginning of the new year should be realistic.
For sure the demo will be available on new years day!
Please advertise on friends and relatives, so the Game
Studio will have some more employee and a faster release of EoD Redux II :-)
Because some people asked multiple times, here are some
information:
The game is a paid version without hidden extra costs. Once purchased you'll buy the
complete game without having to buy extra-items or other benefits.
So players will have the same opportunities online!
There will be an online Web store, where you can order the game, pay and download on the
same day.
Alternatively you can buy the game on a "EoD-Redux-Special-Punji bamboo
USB-stick" :-)
September 22, 2015 - About trailers, cakes and network
problems
Actually the game is ready for 6 weeks now and should be already on it's way to
publication.
However, in tests we discovered a problem in network games, wich must necessarily be
resolved.
As mentioned, every little change has impact in many other areas, causing a new delay.
But it can't be stopped anymore :-)
Hardcore EoD players know that there are some hardcore
gamers at hslan.
Take a look at this special trailer and this very very nice cake :-)
Thanks for the fotos go to kubi &
Braveheart !
July 23, 2015 - Some first impressions of the game
The installation of "artificial intelligence" has delayed the release by half a
year, but it was worth it.
Here's a video and you can see the gameplay and a few bots.
As yet no ESRB rating is done, the video fades out in action-packed places at an early
stage.
Like in the old EoD the bots can use any vehicle, but with the difference that they have
their own vehicles and they don't steal it from the players anymore :-)
The list of features and useable objects is now endless and each vehicle has its own
driving / flying characteristics.
And because everything is self-coded the development took two and a half years to
complete.
As in a project of this size was to be expected, not everything works perfectly.
Because it's planned that the game is published without making a patch necessary, it still
takes some days to clear these things.
But it won't be long ...
Eve of Destruction - Redux - first impressions
June 13, 2015 - AI Test Part 2
Really anticipate the calculator can be...
Each of these 200 bots decide themselves what they do next.
Of course this takes the FPS down, but you don't want to have allways as much action as
seen in the video :-)
AI Test Part 2
May 15, 2015 - AI Testing
An i5-3570, a GTX-660 and some dozens of jets, bombers, propeller planes and helicopters.
Is it possible?
Yes of course and with about 70 FPS without problems as you can see in the short
demo-video.
It's just a testmap and there could be about 130 land
vehicles and about 200 different soldiers but this would result in unacceptable FPS :-)
These guys are flying some random waypoints in a very
small radius so it may sometimes look a little bit strange, but you can imagine how it
looks in a huge landscape with mountains and jungle.
AI Test Air Vehicles
April 21, 2015 - Why EoD still isn't finished
Plan 'A' was to release the game in a timeline of 12-18 months but meanwhile more than 24
months have passed.
Multiplayer, all maps and content are finished since December but as mentioned before: the
game will not be released without singleplayer!
And singleplayer is for sure the most difficult part at all.
The bots must be teached for every single step. No pixel will move automatically cause the
bot has no ammo left :)
And because everything is handmade it will take some more
time to finish everything.
But as a reward it makes a lot of fun to play against the AI - if you have no internet
connection or player colleagues available!
So it will still take some time till everything is
fine-tuned...
But the game definitely will be released, cause more than 2 years of work will not be in
vain!
March 31, 2015 - About traps, elephants, jets and other
things
Since January I'm working feverishly on the single player mode, what seems to be the
hardest part of the project.
But the bots are running and doing a good job!
It took much more time than expected but it's fact that
this is a one-man project without employees and without any budget and imho the
results look quite good.
Because there is still no age rating, the videos are of
course harmless and without any action and only serve as illustrative material. And please
note: it is still 'WIP-material' (WIP = work in progress)!
Have much fun with the short videos.
Charlie don't surf, Landing at the beach
River Village - deceptive calm
Endless Night - Strange encounter in a spooky
jungle
Night Patrol - About trappers and elephants
River Village - Driving a boat on a small river
Nowhere To Run - Sightseeing with a motorbike
January 25, 2015 - Joint Adventure
A little gimmick in the new game - the hippie bus :)
January 15, 2015 - Delay
A fierce flu has struck me down for more than 2 weeks now and if this wasn't enough the
power supply of my machine destroyed the project and backup disc.
But a backup is no backup if it's on the same machine and so 3 other backups (furtunatelly
just some hours old) could be restored.
The PC is currently running with a 300 Watt power supply
from the 90's, and it is quite remarkable that such an old power supply is running a
current processor + graphics card + two hard drives :-)
In december I begun to add AI (artificial intelligence) to
the game to make EoD Redux playable in offline-/singleplayer-mode.
This is harder than expected cause every little step has to be explained for the bots!
It's known from other games: bots run against walls, jump in suicidal intent under
vehicles and respond very strange sometimes.
So it will take some time to get satisfactory results.
A nice gimmick could be completed in december: there is
built a football pitch for a little match in some maps :-)
Historically correct it should be a basketball court , but football is more fun and and
sense, because of the feasibility! With some training, you can shoot world-beating goals.
So the release date is delayed again but you know:
"When it's done!" ;-)
November 1, 2014 - Alpha tests finished
Alpha-testing is finished and there are some more bugs to be fixed and all the maps and
coding have to be optimized for better performance. It will still take some time to get
all things together working propperly but it's worth to wait and prevent bugfixing AFTER
release!
Another delay is caused by the website and shop. It's not
as easy 'just opening an onlineshop'. There are a lot of things to be pointed
out: statutory provisions, age rating, payment options, registration, copyright protection
and much more. A group of a hundred is needed to manage all these things.
Or a one-man-army :)
October 17, 2014 - Test Stage
Alpha-testing has begun though the game isn't finished and running like clockwork. Testers
reported about 200 bugs and suggestions for improvement and everything is fixed already.
But the test stage is the reason for another delay and the amount of features makes it lot
more complex and there are many good new ideas to implement.
August 27, 2014 - Game almost finished
The hardest part is done. Multiplayer is working fine and we will start testing very soon.
Not every map has got singleplayer and the release is depending on this fact.
What I want is singleplayer mode in each map with some kind of intelligent bots, though
the game is primary focused on multiplayer.
So there may be another -short- delay to finish the singleplayer-part.
These parts are finished so far:
- Maps: 27 awesome maps in dense jungle, at the beach, in
urban cities
- Singleplayer: Arcade style snipergame
- Singleplayer: Arcade style huey gunner game
- Singleplayer: Arcade style bomber game
- Singleplayer: Arcade style antiair shooter game
- Multiplayer: conquest mode: get the flag and hold
the position
- Multiplayer: search & destroy mode: search & destroy different objectives
- Multiplayer: hill fight: attack/defend a specific position
- Multiplayer: team deathmatch: teams fight against each other
- Multiplayer: deathmatch: fight against all the other players
- Vehicles land: bicycle, moped, motorbike, cars, jeeps,
trucks, APC in different versions
- Vehicles land: light, medium and heavy tanks, pontoon laying tanks, rocketlauncher
- Vehicles sea: riverraft, surfboard, sampans, motorboats, yacht, fishing boats, patrol
boat
- Vehicles sea: torpedo boat, carrier
- Vehicles air: light to medium helicopters, propeller planes, jets, transporters, bombers
Alltogether about 150 vehicles with different characteristics.
- Handweapons: knives & machete, pistols, shotguns,
light & heavy machineguns
- Handweapons: sniper rifles, smoke-/flare-/explosive-grenades, mines, wiretraps
- Handweapons: repair- and medickit, binoculars
Alltogether about 64 different weapons.
- Soldiers: 12 different soldier models in 36 variants and
countless number of classes
- Soldiers: 7 different teams: NVA, Vietcong, Laos, ARVN, USA, Australia, France
Alltogether about 4.500 hours of work in 20 months !
To mod or not to mod
Because EoD began it's way in 2002 as a modification for
Battlefield 1942 (and still was updated till 2012) I decided to make it possible to create
modifications.
But it will not be the same way like it was in older games. More information about that
will be available short after release!
Reservation, purchasing, age rating
At the moment I'm looking for a webshop with international
payment options, download option and age verification cause the game will be rated 18+ in
the beginning.
It will take some months and lots of money to get an official age ration from USK (german
pendant of PEGI) and it should be 16+ in the end.
Reservation is not possible till the webshop will be
online.
July 4, 2014 - Khe Sanh Airfield
There have been no news for a long time. This was caused by a bug in the network-code.
Every single component and codeline had to be checked once again and finally it was a damn
simple mistake wich destroyed the whole game. Just a simple forgotten line of code.
But now the game has reached it's exciting stage and first tests will begin very soon and
normally release should be this summer.
As a fortaste this is a small video testing the T-33 T-Bird, F-104 Starfighter and A-4
Skyhawk over Khe Sanh airfield (of course this area is not authentic).
And a small trailer with music.
M-60 Patton laying ponton bridge.
April 4, 2014 - Jungle, jungle, jungle
Another impression of the deep jungle and another guy has joined game.
The last weeks I've worked on the soldier animations and they're moving fine.
Vegetation is a nice coverage and camouflage can make these guys invisible.
The Demo is available for Linux now!
March 28, 2014 - Bokor Hill - Vietnam Jungle Version
An idea from the community has been realized within some few hours.
There's a ruin in Cambodia called 'Bokor Hill Station', wich was rebuild in a varied
version and placed in a jungle map. Thanks to Jan for the idea!
The original ruins in Cambodia:
March 25, 2014 - Demo available now
The webserver was moved to a new hardware and the demo is available now!
Please take notice that it's a not optimized work-in-progress-demo and may cause lag on
older CPU!
March 23, 2014 - Webserver trouble
Some people reported problems and interrupted downloads. This is caused by the webserver
and will be fixed soon.
Meanwhile the demo will not be available, please try again later.
March 22, 2014 - First Demo available
A first WIP-demo is available now (WIP = work in progress).
March 18, 2014 - Group photograph
Here's a first picture of the actress. The teams will be expanded until release.
February 14, 2014 - Newsletter
You can subscribe for a newsletter now and get information if there are news about the
game.
